The Career Tech students from the Health Science Technology class along with their teacher, Mrs. Stevens, came to present "Tar Wars" to the fifth grade students.  They discussed the negative effects of smoking, expense of smoking, and health concerns.  The fifth graders were very attentive and learned a lot from these students.

GOOD MANNERS - Good manners are polite ways of behaving or acting by showing consideration for others.  Polite words such as please, thank you, I'm sorry, and excuse me, make the world a happier place.  People with good manners express their gratitude to others.  When you receive a gift it is courteous to write a "Thank You" note to express your appreciation.  When you notice something that you like about another person it is showing Good Manners to give them a compliment such as "You are very good at math!" Good manners should also be used when you are eating in a restaurant or even the school cafeteria.  Remember to not talk with food in your mouth and to use your napkin to wipe your mouth during your meal. Make it a habit to use Good Manners each and every day at school or at home.

Presidential Inauguration 2009

I hope many of you were able to witness the Presidential Inauguration of our 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama and  Vice- President Joe Biden. This has truly been an historical day in our nation. Plan to use this day as one of learning more about the governmental process of our great nation.

Good Choices - Making a good choice means making the right decision and choosing to do something that results in the best outcome.  Have you ever heard of the saying "Look before you leap"? That is another way of saying that you should always try to imagine what would happen before you choose to do something. Good choices usually result in good consequences.  You should always think about what the result of your choice will be before committing an act.  The choices you make can mean consequences for others, as well as yourself.   In your own life, make sure that you make GOOD CHOICES, so that your actions don't have consequences that hurt others.

Goal Setting
Goal setting is choosing a result that you want to achieve and then making and following a plan that will help you accomplish it. A key to goal setting is to start with a realistic plan.  The best goal is one that is just outside of your reach, so you have to stretch and work in order to succeed.  Write down your goals and make a reasonable plan to follow them.  "Achieving great things takes great planning.  Excellence is never as accident."  Set goals that will help you achieve your best.  Colin Powell said: "If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters." Set your goals that will help you become whatever you want to be.

"Coins For A Cure"

We are asking students and faculty at Salter Elementary to help the North Talladega County Relay For Life to collect "COINS FOR A CURE" and join communities across the nation in support of the American Cancer Society's goal to find a cure for cancer.  The classroom that raises the most money during January 12-23, 2009 will win a "Sherbert Party" for their classroom. This year's goal for North Talladega County is $72,000.  Let's do our part to help reach the county goal to find a cure for cancer.

School Supplies

The Federal Correctional Institute shared school supplies with us. We felt like it was "Merry Christmas all over again! Angela Babbs and Gus Jenkins represented FCI and brought paper, glue, folders, school boxes, erasers, pencils, etc. At this time during the school year, many students are running low on school supplies, so we are very appreciative of their efforts!!!

FRIENDSHIP
Friendship is a relationship between two or more people who enjoy being together.  Choose good friends who are respectful and kind and who will help you make good choices. Friends listen, care, trust, respect, and understand each other. They laugh, cry, play, work, and learn together.  Without friendship, the world would be a very lonely place.  Each day we should be challenged to make new friends. .  Maybe we could ask a new friend to sit beside us at lunch or choose a different friend to play with at recess.  Everybody needs a friend.  Always remember - The best way to have a good friend is to be a good friend.
