"Classroom in the Forest"
by:  Laura Posey, 4th Grade Teacher

Our 4th graders traveled to Munford, Alabama and participated in "Classroom in the Forest" outside at Munford schools on Monday, October 5th, 2015. The kids had a variety of sessions they completed on a rotational basis during the day to learn about the forest. The activities were done by the forest service, 4-H, Choccolocco Creek Watershed Alliance, Alabama Forestry Commission, Natural Resource Conservation Service, and a Private land owner. We also had ambassadors from Munford High School that were our tour guides. During the day, they did numerous activities to learn about trees, different animals and their habitats, team building, and had a time to go fishing in the fish pond. We even had some students who helped in catching a catfish. The students had such a wonderful time and took many skills with them to understand more about the forest, its animals, and help them grow as leaders. We received a report from one of the instructors that our students were well behaved, good participants and knowledgeable.  This is what field trips are all about...learning outside the classroom!  As you can see from the pictures below, the students were completely engaged in the topic of the field trip.  We are so glad they had the opportunity to experience "Classroom in the Forest."
